Biography

A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Psyche Cassandra Dunkhase is a dynamic, dedicated and accomplished cellist and cello teacher. With over 17 years of experience performing and teaching, Ms. Dunkhase is committed to providing unique musical experiences that inspire creativity, nurture self-expression and spark imagination.
Ms. Dunkhase holds a Master of Music in cello performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she studied with Judith Glyde, and a Bachelor of Arts in music from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where she studied with Dr. Jason Duckles.
As a registered Suzuki Cello Teacher, Ms. Dunkhase is an active member of both the local and national Suzuki communities. She has completed her Suzuki training primarily with Tanya Carey, as well as with Pam Devenport, David Evenchick, Carol Tarr and Jean Dexter. She has registered training with the SAA for Cello Books 1-10, as well as Cello Practicum, Suzuki Principals in Action, Teaching Note Reading with Accuracy and Ease, Strategies for Effective Group Class Teaching and Suzuki Early Childhood Education Stage 1.
Ms. Dunkhase has been a faculty member of Boulder Suzuki Strings since 2010 and teaches individual and group lessons in both Boulder and Lafayette. She has served as the cello representative on the Suzuki Association of Colorado Board of Directors, currently serves on the Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute Board of Directors, and volunteers with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She is also the Founder and Executive Director of the 501(c)3 for-purpose organization, Cellists for Change.
Ms. Dunkhase has performed in venues including Red Rocks Amphitheater and the Boulder Theater, and has opened for artists including the Punch Brothers and State Radio. Additionally, she has performed and/or recorded with the Fort Collins Symphony and Fort Collins Opera, as well as with artists including The Lumineers, Esme Patterson, Clouds and Mountains, and Poppet.
In addition to teaching and performing, Ms. Dunkhase enjoys spending time with her wife in their mountain permaculture home, drinking earl grey cambrics while reading a good book, and playing electric bass in the band The Frets.
